Today I made...

I am so proud of my hello kitty's! I dont even have anyone to give these to, I may just take them to work with me. They're too cute to just sit in my kitchen and possibly too cute to eat?

I also made blueberry muffins (above). yummm and blueberries are good for you so... win win haha.

Well the birthday cupcakes went down a treat and my dad loved them!
My mum bought me some lovely cupcake-inspired treats too..

A whisk, a timer and some tea-towels. I absolutley love them. Im not sure i can bring myself to use the tea-towels they'll be all grubby and they're too cute for that.

I had an order for 9 cupcakes this week. My brief = Colourful. I wanted to make them pretty too so i grabbed all my glitter and food colour and here are the finished 9 cupcakes...

I hope theyre colourful enough. I do love the little flowers, ive been a little punch happy since making my daisies!
Im planning a tea party for my housemate and my boyfriends 21st's. We have loads of ideas and i cant wait to bring it all together :)

I Just couldn`t wait!

The sunshine makes me really happy in early spring! Its possibly my favourite time of the year, not too hot and not, brrrr, freezing cold! Although it does look like its about to rain but I'm using all my might to wish it away, i do think that our daffodils in the garden will be thankful of the shower though, maybe someone should really water them.

My housemate came back last night, after a four day jaunt home, bearing gifts :) and specifically gifts for me as i am the only person at number 12 who likes Ferrero Rocher! Yumm, i have so far managed to plough through half the box! (woah, i didn't actually realise i had eaten that many!)

They're just so creamy and delicious! The only downside being that i cant kiss the boyfriend post-rocher, (nut allergy!).

Ooo now i remember why i was updating this.. (like i ever really forgot!) MOTHERS DAY CAKE! yes i know i said i was going to bake yesterday and decorate it today, but i had a major failure in the kitchen yesterday with my dad's birthday cake(x2!) and needed to cheer myself up so i made a brew (black, no sugar :) ) and sat myself down with my royal icing and flowers ready to make the cake pretty and here it is...
My photography skills are not up to much but this picture doesn't do it justice!

I am immensely proud of my creation especially after the major calamities of the kitchen yesterday! After throwing away two failed cakes (I honestly don't know what went wrong, i cant have been happy enough. I have a theory that if I'm not at my happiest then my baking doesn't turn out very well.. silly i know haha) I decided to go down the fail-proof route of cupcakes.. and as my dad suffers with heartburn after a lot of buttercream or icing i decided id go with what he loves... chocolate.

So we have vanilla cupcakes with plain chocolate and chocolate cupcakes with white chocolate and various treats to adorn them with. Happy Birthday Dad...

I'm going to send him out of the room tomorrow and line them all up and light them. Perfect for a 53rd birthday I'm sure :)

Baking..Wednesday!

I went shopping today for the ingredients for the Mothers day cake and the Birthday Cake and just couldn't resist buying things to bake tonight! So i decided to make cookies and Scones. This is my first attempt at scones and i think it turned out fairly well.. The photo is a slight cheat (the scones were quite thin so its really two sandwiched together. haha) but still the texture is right :) winner!

The cookies have gone down a treat as per in my house.
If you want the recipes they can be found here for choc chip cookies, here for crinkle cookies and here for scones :)
Stay tuned for the cake!! its going to be born tomorrow, dressed on Friday. eeeee!

Daisies

Instead of being productive in a uni sense i decided to make my daisies..

I rolled out the white flower paste and used a flower puncher to punch out the litte diasies..
and here all 75 (plus a few extra for good luck) are..

So now i have all my leaves, all my daisies and all my roses. I cant wait to put the cake together, but unfortunatley it wont keep if i make it now, it might look pretty but probably inedible so i think best to make it on Friday afternoon ready for the travel to Leeds on Saturday morning. Im going to have a job on hiding it from my mum when we arrive but im sure ill manage, itll be some kind of stealth mission.

My housemate has just started a blog for her wonderful sewing creations.. please have a look at her lovely blog.

We have been asked to run a stall at a Charity event in summer, Ill keep you up-to-date with the developments

Thursday, 4 March 2010

Well hello there (thank you to everyone who has followed me from the previous blog :) ),

I have set up this blog as a way to keep everyone up-to-date with my latest experiments and developments from my kitchen. I am currently working on a Cake for mothersday and at the same time a Birthday cake for my Dads birthday which falls the day before mothersday!

Im following a project out of this months 'Cakes & Sugarcraft' magazine for the mothersday cake, I made a few of the flowers and leaves required last night i cant wait to see it when its all put together. Although my roses are not exactly like the ones it suggests you use, i think it will still look good.

Heres a photo of a couple of roses and a few petals, the block of regalice behind is what will be covering the sponge cake... I still have 75 daisys to punch out but im saving that for the weekend.

I shall keep you informed on the progress of the cake (and birthday cake).
